MG Windsor EV: Redefining Electric Mobility in India

MG Windsor EV

The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market is witnessing a transformative shift, and at the forefront is the MG Windsor EV. Launched by JSW MG Motor India, this electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV) combines advanced technology, impressive range, and innovative ownership models, making it a compelling choice for Indian consumers.

Design and Comfort

The MG Windsor EV boasts a modern design with sleek lines and a commanding presence. Inside, it offers a spacious cabin equipped with premium features such as a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reclining rear seats, and a panoramic glass roof, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Performance and Range

Under the hood, the Windsor EV is powered by a 134 bhp electric motor delivering 200 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between two battery options: a 38 kWh pack offering a range of approximately 331 km, and a larger 52.9 kWh pack extending the range up to 449 km on a single charge. The vehicle supports both AC and DC fast charging, with the latter enabling an 80% charge in just 50 minutes.

Innovative Ownership: Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS)

To make EV ownership more accessible, MG introduces the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. This allows customers to purchase the vehicle without the battery, reducing the upfront cost, and instead opt for a battery rental plan. The rental is priced at ₹4.5 per km, making it a flexible and cost-effective solution for many buyers.

Advanced Features and Safety

The Windsor EV Pro variant comes equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Additionally, it offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities, allowing the car to power external devices or even charge other EVs. A powered tailgate and new interior color schemes further enhance the vehicle’s appeal.

Market Reception and Pricing

The MG Windsor EV has received an overwhelming response, with over 8,000 bookings within 24 hours of launch. Initially priced at ₹17.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Pro variant, the price has since increased by ₹60,000 due to high demand. The BaaS model starts at ₹13.10 lakh, offering an affordable entry point for prospective EV owners.

Conclusion

The MG Windsor EV stands out in the Indian EV landscape by combining performance, advanced features, and innovative ownership models. Its strong market reception underscores the growing appetite for electric mobility in India. As the country moves towards a sustainable future, vehicles like the Windsor EV are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the automotive industry.
