Kia PV5: Redefining the Electric Van for Work, Travel, and Adventure

Kia PV5

Kia is making a bold statement in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the introduction of the PV5, a versatile and modular electric van designed to cater to a wide range of needs — from commercial use to personal adventures. Set to launch in the second half of 2025, the PV5 is part of Kia’s Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) lineup, aiming to rival competitors like the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and Ford E-Transit.

A Platform Built for Flexibility

At the heart of the PV5 is Kia’s new E-GMP.S platform, an evolution of the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) tailored specifically for service-oriented vehicles. This flat, low-floor architecture allows for maximum interior space and adaptability, making it suitable for various applications, including cargo transport, passenger services, and specialized conversions.

Diverse Configurations for Every Need

The PV5 will be available in multiple configurations to suit different requirements:

  • Cargo Van: Available in Compact, Long, and High Roof variants, offering up to 4.9 cubic meters of cargo space. Features include a low 423mm step height and up to 1,815mm interior height, facilitating easy loading and unloading.
  • Passenger Van: Designed for comfort, it includes heated and ventilated seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, and second-row folding seats. The spacious interior and large windows enhance the travel experience. Kia
  • Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV): Thoughtfully developed with a side-entry ramp and universal wheelchair attachment system, ensuring mobility for all passengers. Kia
  • Crew Van: Combines passenger and cargo capabilities, with a transformable second-row space and features like L-Tracks for securing irregular-shaped cargo and in-vehicle Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

Performance and Charging

The PV5 offers two battery options: a 51.5 kWh and a 71.2 kWh pack, providing a range of up to 250 miles. Utilizing a 400-volt electrical architecture, it supports DC fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.

The WKNDR Concept: Adventure-Ready

For those seeking adventure, Kia unveiled the PV5 WKNDR Concept, an off-road-ready camper van equipped with features like:

  • Lifted suspension and off-road tires for rugged terrains.
  • Solar panels and hydro turbine wheels for off-grid power generation.
  • Modular interior with a “Gear Head” storage solution that doubles as a mobile pantry.

This concept showcases the PV5’s potential as a self-sufficient, adventure-ready vehicle.

Market Availability

Production of the Kia PV5 is scheduled to commence in July 2025, with initial launches in South Korea and Europe. Pre-orders are expected to begin in the first half of 2025.

Conclusion

The Kia PV5 represents a significant step forward in the electric van segment, offering versatility, advanced features, and configurations tailored to a wide array of users — from businesses to adventure enthusiasts. With its innovative design and commitment to accessibility, the PV5 is poised to make a substantial impact upon its release
